So do you think the slim will come with full PS2/PS1 backwards compatibility or just be a smaller version of the current model? Do you think they will trim any more off (ports, etc.) in the future?
Now playing Demon's Souls.
Just watched and recommend Ip Man on Blu-ray (shipped via Netflix).

Both companies have spun their wheels a bit.

But if this is a who misled the consumer contest I would have to give Msft the prize as the company does take the cake for lying to the public with the RRoD.

But, don't defend the companies you guys should be talking about the games, who cares if Msft is considered to be one of the shoddiest companies in the world? The EU hates them, and in the US Msft has taken on this perception of being a uncapitalistic and monopolistic bully which led them to tangle with the government on occasion.

Sony BMG Music division has done some shoddy stuff in the past as well with with putting Rootkits into music CDs so you can't copy them, and also using questionable advertisement tactics.

In my mind companies like Msft or Sony will come and go and we will have other companies to bash. Its like this odd and strange allegiance fanboys seem to develop towards their console that makes them blind to reason. It really is an odd phenomenon, I think I can equate it to an immature version of a man's allegiance towards politics or sports.

I agree. The one thing that impressed me was the immediate honesty and apology in this one single circumstance... imagine if we could have that every time... it would definitely be a refreshing change.

As for coming and going... Nintendo seems to be the grandaddy and they are exploiting an untapped market to the fullest right now... so is there any hope of the market and players staying "true to the game" in the foreseeable future? Microsoft and especially Sony have made some truly remarkable progress... but I just think Nintendo is in a different market entirely sometimes.

Sports is an excellent example btw. Thanks for commenting Mike, I appreciate it.

I think the time would be right for BC to be re-implemented when the slim is released. I think they realised that the ps3 wasn't going to sell as well as they thought it would and also to cost save, they removed the BC. When the ps2 is is fazed out, BC will again reign supreme ......

I don't think that they will reduce the amount of ports or other features. The manufacturing costs will continue to reduce and the purchase will be dropped.

Time will tell, I suppose.

I have a feeling they will never put back BC. Sony sent out a survey and a majority of people don't care about BC. While I like having a BC console I really couldn't tell you the last time i played a ps2 game in my ps3.

They should have had 2 sku's. one with it and one without.

I remember when everybody else and their dog (including Sony) was talking up PS2 BC on PS3 as a primary feature inherent to the console that 360 only managed to match through inferior emulation... podcasts, websites, forums... man how times change.

I agree, that way they could charge $$$ for the extra HW needed.

Funny tho, I own alot of ps2 games, but have never had the urge to play any of them for quite a while (before i got my ps3 or 360).

Hmm... I wonder. I imagine there would be an uproar if they took PS1 bc off or if they stopped selling those games on PSN. Maybe their popularity is due to the ability you can play them on PSP, but I still think a classic is a classic and should be able to be replayed whenever you feel like it through BC. Unfortunately PS2BC was one promise Sony couldn't keep up... I'm still hopeful they bring it back, though I doubt it because that would cut into future P$N sales $$$.
